Sriram Raghavan’s graduation film The Eight Column Affair (1987) explores the journey of news coming alive when an athlete featured on the front page falls in love with a tennis starlet featured on the last page. The film draws inspiration from the French New Wave, with an explicit homage to one Mr. Godard, among others. One can also catch glimpses of actors like Nana Patekar (the man with knife, lol), Shivkumar Subramaniam (the marathon runner) and Hemendra Bhatia in the film. Edited by Rajkumar Hirani (another Bollywood success story from recent years).
